چکیده

The subject of the paper is the derivation and analysis of third order nite volume evolution Galerkin schemes for the two-dimensional wave equation system. To achieve this the rst order approximate evolution operator is considered. A recovery stage is carried out at each level to generate a piecewise polynomial approximation ~ U n = RhU n 2 S h from the piecewise constantU 2 S h , to feed into the calculation of the uxes. We estimate the truncation error and give numerical examples to demonstrate the higher order behaviour of the scheme for smooth solutions.

Finite volume evolution Galerkin method for hyperbolic conservation laws with spatially varying flux functions

We present a generalization of the finite volume evolution Galerkin scheme [17, 18] for hyperbolic systems with spatially varying flux functions. Our goal is to develop a genuinely multi-dimensional numerical scheme for wave propagation problems in a heterogeneous media. We illustrate our methodology for acoustic waves in a heterogeneous medium but the results can be generalized to more complex...

Large Time Step Finite Volume Evolution Galerkin Methods

We present two new large time step methods within the framework of the wellbalanced finite volume evolution Galerkin (FVEG) schemes. The methodology will be illustrated for low Froude number shallow water flows with source terms modeling the bottom topography and Coriolis forces, but results can be generalized to more complex systems of balance laws. The FVEG methods couple a finite volume form...

A Finite Volume Evolution Galerkin Scheme for Acoustic Waves in Heterogeneous Media

In this paper, we present a numerical scheme for the propagation of acoustic waves in a heterogeneous medium in the context of the finite volume evolution Galerkin (FVEG) method (M. Lukáčová-Medvid’ová et al. J. Comput. Phys., 183:533–562, 2002). As a mathematical model we consider a wave equation system with space dependent wave-speed and impedance, which is used to study the wave propagation ...

Well-balanced Finite Volume Evolution Galerkin Methods for the 2d Shallow Water Equations on Adaptive Grids

Abstract. We extend a well-balanced finite volume evolution Galerkin (FVEG) method to nonuniform grids. As a model problem, we consider the two-dimensional shallow water equations with a source term modelling the bottom topography. Our work is based on the well-balanced scheme proposed in (Lukáčová, Noelle, Kraft, J.Comp.Physics, 221, 2007). We present selected test cases to demonstrate the cap...
